The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles Hints

How can I solve the big statue puzzle?

  • 1 of 18: Start by finding the statue of a hunger that's in the north niche in the statue room.
  • 2 of 18: Notice that it has a push button in its large base.
  • 3 of 18: Try pushing the button and then immediately turning around.
  • 4 of 18: You'll see that the hunger statue spews lightning, which hits the nearest grummite statue and is then passed on by it to another grummite statue.
  • 5 of 18: However, the second grummite statue in the sequence doesn't do anything with the lightning.
  • 6 of 18: Maybe you should adjust it somehow so that it'll pass the lightning along to the next grummite statue.
  • 7 of 18: If you go up the east stairs near the hunger statue, you'll find four push buttons on a wall.
  • 8 of 18: Notice that they're arranged in the same pattern as the four grummite statues that are down on the lower floor.
  • 9 of 18: The buttons correspond to the statues as you see them when you look down at them below.
  • 10 of 18: That means the bottom button will move the northern statue, which is the one that the lightning from the hunger statue first strikes.
  • 11 of 18: However, that statue is apparently in the right position already, since it does pass the lightning along, so leave the bottom button alone. (Or press it again if you've already pressed it once.)
  • 12 of 18: It's the statue that's past that one and on the left that isn't passing the lightning along, so press the left button to rotate it a bit.
  • 13 of 18: Then try the hunger statue's button again.
  • 14 of 18: Watching carefully, you'll notice that now the lightning is passed all the way to the southern statue, which is where it stops.
  • 15 of 18: So go press the southern statue's button on the control panel.
  • 16 of 18: That'll be the top button.
  • 17 of 18: After pressing it, try the hunger statue's button yet again.
  • 18 of 18: This time, the lightning will go all the way to the fifth and final grummite statue that's way off to the south, and it'll use the charge to blast out the west wall near it.
