The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles Hints

The Antipodean Hammer

  • 1 of 9: This quest starts when you find your first "matrix" mold.
  • 2 of 9: You can also get the quest by talking to Cutter in her shop near the north end of New Sheoth's Crucible district, or Dumag gro-Bonk in "The Missing Pauldron" in the Bliss district.
  • 3 of 9: What it amounts to is that Dumag will take amber from you and make amber weapons and light armor, and Cutter will take madness ore from you and make madness weapons and heavy armor.
  • 4 of 9: The materials lists that they give you will tell you how many pieces of amber and madness ore you have to have for each item. Also, they remind you that if you provide a matrix for the item, it'll have magical properties when finished.
  • 5 of 9: Fortunately, amber and madness ore are much more common than the matrices are. You can get amber from gnarls and special containers (like limbs and stumps) in many dungeons, and you can get madness ore from grummites and ore deposits in many dungeons.
  • 6 of 9: Below are lists of fixed locations where you can find amber and madness ore.
  • 7 of 9: You have to be level 23 or higher in order to get the best versions of amber and madness items, plus the highest-powered enchantments from items made with matrices. Due to this, you might want to stockpile matrices, amber, and madness ore until you're level 23.
  • 8 of 9: If you get the highest-level madness armor items, their quality (not counting enchantments) will be just a tiny shred above Daedric item quality. However, their weight will also be a shred higher. The amber armor items are likewise similar to glass items.
  • 9 of 9: The weapons are the same no matter which of the two types they are, and are all a shred better than Daedric weapons if they're top-quality.
