The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles Hints
Ruin's Edge
This bow's enchantment causes a random spell effect to happen on a target that's struck with arrows fired from it. The effect is chosen from the list of possibilities below:
* Paralyze for 15 seconds (1% chance)
* Paralyze for 1 second (9% chance)
* Silence for 20 seconds (10% chance)
* Demoralize up to level 25 for 20 seconds (20% chance)
* Frenzy up to level 50 for 30 seconds (30% chance)
* Burden 100 points for 20 seconds (30% chance)
The bow is most useful for its super-powerful Frenzy effect, which is way better than any Frenzy spell could ever be. If you find yourself in a dungeon full of hostile NPCs, hit them with arrows from Ruin's Edge until they start fighting each other! The bow's Frenzy effect will also work on city guards, unlike regular Frenzy spells. (But note that it still doesn't affect any type of creature -- only NPCs.)
If you want to know for sure what effect is chosen each time the bow is fired, use the TES4 Construction Set program to edit the script SE05RewardSpellScript in the Oblivion.esm file. Remove the semicolons (;) from in front of the six lines with the MessageBox command in them, then save the script. After saving your changes as a new ESP file, set the game to include it, then run it and start using the bow. Every time you hit a target (and the spell isn't resisted, reflected, or absorbed), you'll get a pop-up message box that'll tell you what effect was applied. You could also edit the script to change the probabilities of each effect being chosen, or even create your own new spells and add them to the bow's repertoire.
