Zek Boss Combat Tips

  • 1 of 11: Stay back near the door and wait while he teleports around a bit. Before long, he'll start appearing on the ground and conjuring explosive barrels to throw at you.
  • 2 of 11: Have your TMD out so you can grab the barrels and throw them back at him. (Note that they don't become grabbable until after he throws them.)
  • 3 of 11: Try to keep your distance from him to make catching barrels and avoiding their blast radius easier. Sprinting across the area after each barrel tossback will help with this.
  • 4 of 11: After you score a few barrel hits on the boss, he'll emit blue energy and vanish. He won't reappear right away, but will instead send three regular zeks after you. Sprint for the entry door area to keep them from surrounding you, then hit them with impulse blasts and the shotgun.
  • 5 of 11: When the boss reappears, he'll have a massive hammer. Fortunately, it's too heavy for even him to control very well.
  • 6 of 11: Go right up to him so he'll start a swing aimed at crushing your head, then back up so that it'll miss you and get stuck in the ground. (Don't try to strafe -- just run straight backwards.)
  • 7 of 11: Quickly sprint around behind him and shoot the big blue spot on his back until he vanishes. When he reappears, repeat the process until he sends three more regular zeks after you. (Note that it's possible to shoot his blue spot enough the first time that he sends in the regular zeks, especially if you're using the shotgun.)
  • 8 of 11: This time, you may want to sprint around the border of the area and pick up supplies while blasting zeks. Or if that's too much trouble, do so after the boss gets back and starts throwing barrels again.
  • 9 of 11: Catch and return the barrels as before, but watch out for him attacking with the hammer again. When he does, dodge it as before, but forget about shooting him in his new vulnerable spot (his head), since he'll teleport out right after one quick swing.
  • 10 of 11: To kill him, you could dodge barrels and shoot him in the head before he vanishes, or you could throw barrels back so they hit his head. To make things go really fast, return the first barrel he throws, then immediately charge him while shooting him in the head with the shotgun.
  • 11 of 11: In any case, he'll eventually die, and you'll get a checkpoint save.
