    USES:
    This is supposed to prevent your opponents from casting spells, but I never used it to do that.  I did however enjoy it when I used it on my party in the Ettin's room in the First Level of the Sharga Mines.  It probably is the only way (or at least the only one I know of) to get to the Ettin's chest which contains one of the all important orbs.
