The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Game Add-Ons (DLC) Hints
Kill General Falx Carius.
1 of 8: NOTE: Ash spawn will appear a bit west of Raven Rock's SE gate periodically until you finish this quest. You might want to take advantage of that to get some more loot from them, including the spawn ash ingredient item.
2 of 8: Veleth directed you to Fort Frostmoth, which is a ways directly east of the farm.
3 of 8: When you reach the fort, go around to its south side to find some stairs that lead up to its courtyard entrance. Be ready to fight a couple of ash spawn on the way in, plus more in the courtyard.
4 of 8: After the courtyard is clear, go through the door on its west side to enter the fort.
5 of 8: Watch for another ash spawn to rise from an ash pile as you move forward, plus another one that runs in from the left.
6 of 8: Go down the stairs to the north and kill two more ash spawn, then check the east wall to find a key-required door.
7 of 8: Past that door, sneak up the stairs until you can see the general off in the distance, then hit him with a sneak-attack arrow.
8 of 8: If you then quickly sneak-walk back down the stairs and take cover to the left of the doorway, you should be able to avoid his notice. After your stealth indicator goes back to "hidden," you can repeat the process. (Be careful not to get spotted by one of his ash spawn pals, or he'll automatically detect you, too.)
