The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Game Add-Ons (DLC) Hints
Retrieve Gratian Caerellius's Journal.
1 of 11: Go down the stairs that are just past Crescius, then go down wooden ramps until you reach the bottom of the last one and encounter a skeever.
2 of 11: Go along the wooden walkway that leads north, then kill frostbite spiders as you make your way down to a boarded-over doorway. Attack the boards with weapons and/or spells to get rid of them, then go through the doorway and open the iron gate (courtesy of the key that Crescius gave you).
3 of 11: Past the gate and a ramp, enter the waterlogged crypt area cautiously, since several draugr will rise up and attack you. Watch out for a swinging gate trap as you leave that area, then move on to another one with some draugr in it (including two on thrones).
4 of 11: Past an open iron door is a large circular chamber with a bunch more leveled draugr on thrones. Try to sneak-shoot as many as you can before the remaining ones decide to get up and come after you.
5 of 11: Go through the doors in the back of the chamber, then move on until you come to a spot with magic pedestal traps in niches to the left and right. If your magic resistance isn't very high, you'll need to either quickly sprint past them, or hang back and throw fireballs at the walls near them to knock their soul gems off.
6 of 11: Past an iron door is a large chamber with some draugr in it, including two deathlords. You'll want to hang back and lure one of them out, then go in after the other one.
7 of 11: Go up the stairs that are near the locked door, then get onto the upper walkway and go around to where there's a handle on a pedestal. Use it to open the iron gate that's on the other side of the walkway.
8 of 11: Past the gate, turn left at the path split and get the spell tome for Ice Spike off a pedestal. Look up from there to see a magic pedestal trap on the upper level, then use Ice Spike, Fireball, an arrow, or whatever to knock its soul gem off.
9 of 11: Go the other way at the path split and up a curving wooden ramp, then go past the magic trap pedestal and optionally pull a chain on the wall to open a secret treasure room.
10 of 11: Go on past that until you cross a short bridge, then carefully avoid pressure plates on the floor as you look for a hard-to-see side passage. (The door past the stairs just leads to a bit of optional treasure.)
11 of 11: At the other end of the passage, carefully drop down into the huge chamber so you won't take damage, then look near the large, fancy stone door for the remains of Gratian Caerellius. Loot him to get his journal, a unique two-handed sword, and the next objective.
