The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Game Add-Ons (DLC) Hints
Recover the Bonemold Formula for Glover Mallory.
of 8: Before you can get this quest, you'll need to work on the Thieves Guild questline in Skyrim until you've gotten your Thieves Guild armor and talked to everyone in the Ragged Flagon. You should then be able to talk to Glover Mallory in Raven Rock about the shadowmark by his door.
of 8: NOTE: If all you care about is making improved bonemold armor at forges, you can do so without getting this quest. Read ahead to see where the bonemold formula is, then go get it and read it in inventory.
of 8: The quest arrow points to the Castle Karstaag Caverns area, so travel there and enter the cave.
of 8: The body of Esmond Tyne is on a chunk of ice near the entrance to the first large cavern.
of 8: Follow the quest arrow to it, then take the "Bonemold Formula" document from it. You can then flee the cavern without having to fight any rieklings if you don't want to explore or loot the place any further.
of 8: Return to Glover Mallory and give him the formula to gain the ability to craft improved bonemold armor items at forges (provided you have the Smithing skill's Steel Smithing perk).
of 8: You'll also get a key to Mallory's house, which you'll then be able to loot legally. Be sure to check out the room past the locked door in the basement, since it has lots of good stuff in it, including a unique set of Blackguard's armor in a display case. (Note that it's just the same as the Guild Master's armor set you get when finishing the Thieves Guild quest series, except that some of the enchantments are a little bit stronger.)
of 8: There's also a letter on the south ledge, next to a strongbox, that you can take. Return to Skyrim and talk to Sapphire in the Ragged Flagon's cistern area, then give her the letter to get an exquisite sapphire worth 5000 gold as a reward. (Note that if you haven't done the "Speak to Sapphire about Shadr's debt" Riften miscellaneous quest yet, you'll have to at least start it before you can give the letter to Sapphire.)
