The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Game Add-Ons (DLC) Hints
How can I open this gate?
of 12: It's not going to be quite as simple as just shooting a single kinetic resonator this time.
of 12: Go up the stairs that are directly opposite the ones that lead up to the gate, then move along the ledge until you find a dead guy named Ulyn.
of 12: Take his journal and read it, then examine the large boiler in the center of the area to see that it has six kinetic resonators on it, plus a large circular array of 20 lights in the center.
of 12: As the journal will tell you, shooting any of the kinetic resonators on the boiler will cause a specific number of lights to light up on the circular display.
of 12: Pick up Ulyn's bow and arrows if you don't have a good bow or ranged spell with you, then quicksave before you start shooting resonators.
of 12: If you hit enough resonators to add up to more than 20 lights, you'll have to start over after fighting some dwarven constructs.
of 12: It's best to first find out exactly how many lights each resonator will light up. To do that, quickrestore, shoot a resonator and make a note of how many lights it lights up, then quickrestore again and repeat with another resonator.
of 12: You'll find that, in left-to-right order, the resonators light up 3, 4, 6, 9, 13, and 18 lights. How could you add two or more of those numbers to get exactly 20?
of 12: You obviously can't use the 18, so try using the 13.
of 12: 20 minus 13 is 7. What other numbers could add up to 7?
of 12: 3 plus 4 equals 7, so that should work.
of 12: Shoot the leftmost resonator to light up 3 lights, the second-from-left resonator to light up 4 more lights, and the second-from-right resonator to light up 13 more lights, for a total of 20. (Note that you can shoot them in any order.)
