The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Game Add-Ons (DLC) Hints

When should I start doing this add-on's quests?

  • 1 of 6: Not right away, if you've just started a new game. Many of the quests can be very hard for low-level characters.
  • 2 of 6: However, you might as well do the first quest and the first part of the second quest in order to get some stuff from Fort Dawnguard, including the new crossbow weapon.
  • 3 of 6: Dimhollow Crypt involves combat with several vampires and death hounds, and you may not be able to handle it right away. If not, go do other quests and character development exercises for awhile, and come back later.
  • 4 of 6: If you're eager to become a vampire lord, you'll want to find a way to get through the second and third quests as soon as possible. That's because the first opportunity to get the Vampire Lord power happens at the end of the third quest. (Becoming a vampire in the "traditional" way doesn't give you that power.)
  • 5 of 6: When you go to Dimhollow Crypt, take along lots of healing and Invisibility potions, and be sure to have the Muffle spell. That should allow you to sneak past at least some of the combats unseen. If you want to do the combats, bring along a follower, and get a spell that can summon a creature.
  • 6 of 6: See the combat tips in the "General Tips and Information" section of the main Skyrim hint file for more combat strategies.
