How do I get started on this add-on?
1 of 6: First, make sure the add-on is active.
2 of 6: On the game's launcher menu, select "Data Files" and make sure there's a checkmark in the box to the left of HearthFires.esm.
3 of 6: Click "OK," then run the game and load a save.
4 of 6: You can then keep on exploring, looting, doing quests, and so on until you receive a letter from a courier regarding a possible purchase of land, or you can skip the wait and go directly to doing the necessary prerequisites.
5 of 6: You can purchase plots of land to build on after doing some or all of the thane tasks in the following three holds: Hjaalmarch (Morthal), The Pale (Dawnstar), and Falkreath.
6 of 6: See the main Skyrim UHS file's "Miscellaneous Quests" section for hints on the thane tasks, then check the first three questions below this one for specific land-buying hints.
