The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Hints

Falion's mysterious nighttime routine.

  • 1 of 8: If you talk to various people in Morthal about what's wrong in town, the name Falion will come up more than once.
  • 2 of 8: If you talk to Falion himself, he'll get all defensive. He'll also say something about helping to maintain order, and will warn you against wandering the marshes at night.
  • 3 of 8: To find out what he's up to, go to a spot near the door to his house at around midnight, then wait an hour. If he doesn't come out and start walking off within a few seconds, wait another hour.
  • 4 of 8: After he comes out, follow him along until he reaches a small stone circle area that's a short way north of town.
  • 5 of 8: Note that instead of waiting for Falion in town and then following him, you could go to the stone circle area yourself and wait for him there. It's almost exactly halfway between the Apprentice Stone and Movarth's Lair. (See the Morthal section of the World Map Exploration Guide if you need help discovering those two locations.)
  • 6 of 8: Once you and Falion are at the stone circle, ask him what he's doing. He'll get all defensive again and refuse to tell you.
  • 7 of 8: You can either extort 200 gold from him in exchange for keeping his secret, or you can say that you'll keep it without asking for gold. In either case, you can then go tell Jarl Idgrod Ravencrone in Highmoon Hall that he's casting spells in the swamp at night.
  • 8 of 8: NOTE: If you tell Ravencrone about Falion's swamp doings, you can follow her to his house, where she'll supposedly tell him off. However, that never seems to happen. She'll just stand around near Falion and not say anything. Due to this, and to the fact that you shouldn't double-cross someone who's both a merchant and a trainer, you probably won't ever want to tell Ravencrone about Falion.
