The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Hints
Locate a clue about Brand-Shei's past.
1 of 7: NOTE: You can only do this objective before doing the first Thieves Guild faction quest.
2 of 7: Go to Riften and find Brand-Shei at his stall in the open-air marketplace sometime during the day. Say he has an odd name for a dark elf, then ask if he has any clues about his past.
3 of 7: Say you'll keep an eye open, then ask him why he was searching in Skyrim to learn the name of a ship.
4 of 7: Make this objective active, then use the quest arrow to help you find the Wreck of the Pride of Tel Vos.
5 of 7: Kill off the bandits in the nearby camp (or sneak around so they don't detect you), then go over to the center of the ship, where it's split open.
6 of 7: Take the journal from the quest-arrow-marked chest, then return to Riften and tell Brand-Shei about what you found.
7 of 7: He'll give you a key to his strongbox as a reward. Go around to his side of the stall, then open the sliding door and raid the strongbox for valuable items. (Note that you don't have to sneak while doing this, since he wants you to have it.)
