How can I get all of those spears out of the way?

  • 1 of 8: Ex-spear-iment with the four levers to see which spears each one affects.
  • 2 of 8: You'll soon find that the levers only affect the four nearest vertical spears.
  • 3 of 8: Each lever will lower the corresponding spear (leftmost lever lowers leftmost spear, etc.) plus any spears adjacent to it (leftmost lever also lowers second-from-left spear, for instance). I say "lower," but if that spear is already lowered from a previous lever-pulling, it'll be raised instead.
  • 4 of 8: If you mentally number the levers and spears from 1 to 4 in left-to-right order, you'll get the following table of data:

    * Lever 1 affects Spears 1, 2
    * Lever 2 affects Spears 1, 2, 3
    * Lever 3 affects Spears 2, 3, 4
    * Lever 4 affects Spears 3, 4
  • 5 of 8: Looking at that data, do any obvious solutions stand out or grab your attention?
  • 6 of 8: Notice that with levers 1 and 4, each spear is only affected once.
  • 7 of 8: So pull levers 1 and 4 to remove all of the spears. (The ones that are criss-crossed behind the row of four will retract right after the four are all down.)
  • 8 of 8: NOTE: Sometimes, pulling a lever doesn't affect the spears like it should. If you're having trouble, push all four levers into their starting (forward) position, then see if all four spears are up. If not, figure out which lever(s) you need to pull to get them up. After that, work with levers 1 and 4 until all four spears are down.
