Search the Ratway for Esbern's hideout.
1 of 3: See the "Taking Care of Business" Thieves Guild faction quest's first objective for directions on getting to the Ragged Flagon.
2 of 3: If you did Brynjolf's quest, ask him about the old man again to get the next objective. Otherwise, try talking to someone else.
3 of 3: You can ask both Dirge and Vekel the Man about the old man, but you'll have to either bribe them or pass a persuade option (or brawl, in the case of Dirge) if you're not a respected member of the Thieves Guild.
