The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Hints

Defeat Alduin.

  • 1 of 6: As soon as you regain control, bring up the Spells menu and select the Dragonrend shout. If you have an Amulet of Talos, you'll probably want to equip it to shorten the time you have to wait between shouts.
  • 2 of 6: Look up and wait if necessary for Alduin to go into hover mode, then aim at him and lean on the Shout key. That won't immediately drop him down, but it should cause him to land near you soon.
  • 3 of 6: As soon as he does, lay into him with your best weapons, spells, and/or other shouts. You'll want to deal him as much damage as possible before he takes off again.
  • 4 of 6: If you want to keep fighting him continuously instead of letting him fly around between attacks, keep hitting him with Dragonrend every time it recharges. Even if he starts to take off, he should drop right back down. The disadvantage of this method is that you'll be under more or less constant attack, and will have to run around and use strong healing potions to stay alive.
  • 5 of 6: Another thing you could try is bringing him down and then taking cover behind the nearby damaged Word Wall. Peek out and shoot him with arrows or ranged spells (and Dragonrend to keep him down). Paarthurnax will occasionally attack him for some added damage. Watch out for him edging around to where he can get at you behind the wall. You'll probably want to let him take off and fly around a bit every now and then to prevent that from happening.
  • 6 of 6: Stop attacking Alduin when his health bar disappears. After he brags about how you can't kill him and flies away, you'll get the next quest.
