The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Hints
Retrieve the Rueful Axe with Barbas.
1 of 4: Go up the stairs to the raised area behind Vile's statue, then use the pull chain to the right of the passage to lower its spear barrier.
2 of 4: Go down the passage until you exit to the outdoors, then travel to Rimerock Burrow, which is a long ways west of Solitude. See the World Map Exploration Guide for tips on discovering it.
3 of 4: Enter the burrow, ready to fight a powerful mage named Sebastian Lort and his summoned atronach.
4 of 4: After they're dead, get the Rueful Axe from the table that's near the Arcane Enchanter in the back of their cave room.
