The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Hints
Retrieve the Ebony Blade.
1 of 4: Get the Ebony Blade from the table past the door, then wait while Mephala talks to you.
2 of 4: The quest will be over after that, but remember what Mephala said about empowering the blade.
3 of 4: You'll need to use it to kill people who've come to trust you. The most convenient way to do that is to kill some quest-related followers (see the Followers List), especially the weaker ones who are associated with small miscellaneous quests. Have them follow you out into the wilderness, then hack 'em up with the Ebony Blade.
4 of 4: TIP: Get the Conjuration skill's Dead Thrall spell, then use it to resurrect a dead follower after you kill him. Killing him again with the Ebony Blade will give you more "ebony credit," and you can keep that up until the blade is fully empowered.
