Obtain a Silver Ingot.
1 of 2: You can sometimes find silver ingots in the shop inventories of blacksmith merchants. Or if you find two silver ore chunks in their inventories, buy them both and use a smelter to turn them into a silver ingot.
2 of 2: You can also easily steal silver ingots from several areas, including two of the upstairs rooms in the Jarl's Quarters area of Whiterun's Dragonsreach.
