The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Hints

Kill Gaius Maro.

  • 1 of 6: Do the "(Optional) Steal Gaius Maro's travel schedule" objective so you'll be able to track Maro's position on the world map no matter where he is.
  • 2 of 6: You can then kill him the bonus-friendly way by waiting until he's in one of the cities on his schedule, then going after him.
  • 3 of 6: Or if you had the patience, you could follow him along as he walks from Dragon Bridge to wherever he's going next. That'll at least guarantee that you don't arrive at the city only to find that he's already departed.
  • 4 of 6: Once you locate him within a city, you'll have to come up with an assassination plan. This is made extremely difficult by the facts that he never sleeps and can teleport himself over vast distances whenever you fast-travel or use the game's wait feature to make time pass. Also, if someone sees him die, you'll probably get a 1000-gold bounty, or at least turn everyone hostile, even if you were unseen when you killed him.
  • 5 of 6: If you have the Pickpocket skill's Poisoned perk, you could use the pickpocketing screen to sneak poisons into Maro's inventory, but note that he has a powerful health regeneration effect on him. You'll probably have to pickpocket in several strong poisons at a time to kill him. And try to do it where no one can see him die to avoid getting a bounty.
  • 6 of 6: If you think you can beat him without the benefit of stealth, you could talk to him and say that you're going to kill him and then the Emperor. That'll get him to attack you, and you'll be able to kill him without getting a bounty.
