Exactly how can I get the maze's special prize?
1 of 12: After grabbing all four magic staffs from the circular platform, enter the maze's southern entrance, since it's closer.
2 of 12: Open the two cylindrical metal "shutter" items at the entrance to see if they contain any loot, then move forward to find an Alteration sigil on the wall.
3 of 12: To lower the nearby spear gate, you'll have to hit the sigil with a ranged Alteration spell. If you have no such spell, use the Staff of Magelight that you got from the circular platform.
4 of 12: Past the spear gate, make your way along the extremely long and winding passage, killing skeevers and checking shutters for loot, until you finally come to a dead end.
5 of 12: Use a Destruction spell (or the Staff of Firebolts) on the wall sigil to open the trap door, then drop down to the room below.
6 of 12: Turn right at the path split to find a stairwell that'll get you up to a spot that's west of the maze.
7 of 12: Go north to the Word Wall's area, then enter the nearby maze entrance to find an Illusion sigil.
8 of 12: Hit it with a ranged Illusion spell or the Staff of Fear to lower the spear gate, then go along another long and winding passage. This one is pretty much the same as the other one, with the exception that there's an ice wraith in addition to the skeevers, and there's a Conjuration skill book next to a skeleton just past the ice wraith encounter.
9 of 12: You'll eventually come to a dead end with a Restoration sigil on the wall. After quicksaving, hit it with a ranged Restoration spell or the Staff of Repulsion to open the trap door and drop down.
10 of 12: Since you've now hit all four wall sigils with spells, moving forward from the drop-down room will get you teleported to a misty area with a hostile dremora in it.
11 of 12: After you do him a bit of damage, you'll both be teleported to a spot near the circular platform, and the dremora will gain two atronach supporters. (There's a glitch that sometimes keeps the dremora from appearing. If that happens, quickrestore and try again.)
12 of 12: Kill the dremora and the atronachs, then loot the dremora to get your prize -- a Diadem of the Savant. You could've gotten one of those a lot more easily by visiting Froki's Shack (see the Riften section of the World Map Exploration Guide) and looking on the nearby woodchopping stump, but oh well.
