Lockpicking
1 of 3: Buy all the lockpicks you can from merchants (most of them will have a few in stock), and pickpocket all the ones you can find in people's inventories.
2 of 3: Once you save up a bunch of them, find a locked door or chest that you can pick unseen (or that no one will care if you pick), then purposely break a bunch of lockpicks in it. Each time you do that, you'll get a bit of skill practice.
3 of 3: Remember not to actually unlock the item, since that will put an end to your practice, at least until you find another locked item. Also, save a couple dozen lockpicks in case you come across something you want to unlock before you can build up your lockpick stockpile again.
