How can I get this quest?
1 of 4: Start by stealing one of the 24 "unusual gems" that exist in the game. See below for a list of all of their locations.
2 of 4: That'll get you a miscellaneous objective to find an appraiser. To do that, you'll need to go to Riften.
3 of 4: The first time you enter Riften, a guy named Maul will talk to you near the gate. Show him the unusual gem and ask what it's worth to get this quest.
4 of 4: NOTE: If you talk to Maul and/or join the Thieves Guild before stealing your first unusual gem, you can get this quest by taking the gem straight to Vex in the Ragged Flagon.
