The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Hints
Find Azura's Star.
1 of 10: Fast-travel to the Guardian Stones near Riverwood, then go west along the lake's northern shore until you find Ilinalta's Deep.
2 of 10: Use the quest arrow to find a trap door you can use to enter the keep, then move along the dank passageway until you come to a room where a necromancer is hanging out with some skeleton buddies of his.
3 of 10: Past that is a room with two necromancers, followed by a partly flooded room with another necromancer. Watch for skeletons and summoned creatures, too.
4 of 10: After you kill a lone skeleton, you'll come to a room with several necromancers in it, including one who's more powerful than the others. Try to sneak-attack and/or lure the weaker ones out so you can fight the powerful one alone.
5 of 10: In the next partly flooded room, swim across to the well-lit altar, then use the pull chain that's on the wall near the chest to lower the bridge before moving down the next passage. (That isn't necessary, but it'll be useful if you decide to go back the way you came before finding Azura's Star.)
6 of 10: When you come to a barred door, activate the wooden plank to move it so you can open the door. In the room beyond, go along the upper walkway to find a door to the Ilinalta's Deluge area.
7 of 10: Kill the two necromancers in the first room you come to, then move on to a jail cell area that's guarded by a necromancer and a skeleton archer.
8 of 10: The large round room past that has two necromancers in it, plus several skeletons and a dead bandit that they'll raise to help them. Be sure to stay back in the passage to keep that crowd under control.
9 of 10: Go up the stairs at the north end of the circular room to finally reach the room where Malyn Varen's skeleton sits in eternal repose.
10 of 10: Look on the floor at his feet to find Azura's Star. It's broken, but take it anyway.
