Talk to Jarl Balgruuf.
1 of 3: Wait until Irileth shows up and reports a dragon sighting, then follow her to the Jarl.
2 of 3: You'll get the next objective after the Jarl talks to you and gives you a reward for getting the Dragonstone.
3 of 3: NOTE: The reward includes permission to buy a house in Whiterun, which you can do now if you have 5000 gold to spare. Find Proventus Avenicci (who's usually in Dragonsreach or the adjacent Jarl's quarters) and talk to him about it, then go find the house called Breezehome a bit east of Whiterun's main gate. Enter it and go upstairs to find a bed you can sleep in and a chest you can store stuff in. (If you want to buy more storage containers, an alchemy lab, or other decorations, talk to Avenicci about it.)
