The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Hints

Conjuration

  • 1 of 8: This skill is best practiced using two spells: one to summon a weak creature, and one to summon a bound weapon.
  • 2 of 8: Cast the summon creature spell, then cast the bound weapon spell. Hit the summoned creature with the bound weapon four times to turn it hostile, then let it hit you a few times before finishing it off. If you got badly injured, you could then practice Restoration by casting the Healing spell on yourself until you're fully healed.
  • 3 of 8: Summon another creature and repeat the process, including the healing part whenever necessary. (Note that sheathing your bound weapon and then resummoning it after every combat will increase your practice a bit, but it can be costly in terms of magicka.)
  • 4 of 8: To decrease the amount of time you have to wait in order to keep casting those spells, equip any items you have that increase your magicka and its regeneration rate. If you've been practicing your Alchemy skill, you may have a bunch of cheap Restore Magicka potions that would also be useful.
  • 5 of 8: Believe it or not, you can actually catch diseases from summoned creatures. The logic of this escapes me, but the solution doesn't. Do all your Conjuration practicing in or near a major city so you can go to its temple and use a shrine to get your disease cured right away.
  • 6 of 8: A different way to practice Conjuration is to find a lone weak creature like a mudcrab or wolf, then cast Soul Trap on it over and over without attacking it. Just be sure to watch your health and use healing potions or spells when needed. (Note that if you're dealing with a mudcrab, it should be pretty easy to dodge its attacks.)
  • 7 of 8: Or instead of casting Soul Trap on the creature, you could cast Bound Sword, then sheathe it, then cast it again, sheathe it again, and so on. This is best done when there's a nearby enemy that has no ranged attacks and can't get to you due to terrain.
  • 8 of 8: NOTE: You may be able to get Conjuration increases by casting Soul Trap over and over on a dead body. This is clearly a glitch, and may not work for you (though it did for me with the version 1.7 game update).
