1 of 4: Find him in the market area during the day (or the inn in the evening), then quicksave.
2 of 4: Pickpocket his letter from Olfina, then talk to him about it.
3 of 4: After the conversation is over, go to the large Talos shrine that's near Jorrvaskr and wait an hour until Jon shows up.
