Find a way to release Thorald from Thalmor custody.
1 of 4: Northwatch Keep is near the NW corner of the world map area. See the Solitude section of the World Map Exploration Guide if you need help finding it.
2 of 4: Rescuing Thorald without Avulstein's help works pretty much like it does in the "Rescue Thorald from Northwatch Keep" objective, with the exceptions that you won't have any combat support (unless you bring a follower) and sneaking around unseen will be a lot easier.
3 of 4: Using stealth to enter the keep unseen is very difficult, even if you have the Muffle spell and Invisibility potions. Besides, you'll need all of the outdoor guards to be dead when you exit the keep with Thorald later.
4 of 4: Bring a tough, well-equipped follower, and use sneaky ranged attacks and summoned creatures to help you kill off all of the keep's exterior guards. After that, enter the keep through its unlocked door and make your way through it as outlined in the above-mentioned objective.
