The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Hints

Restoration Ritual Spell

  • 1 of 7: Get your Restoration skill all the way up to 90, then ask Colette Marence in the Hall of Countenance what else there is to be learned about Restoration magic. (Note that you'll have to finish the "Good Intentions" main-line quest first if you haven't already.)
  • 2 of 7: She'll refer you to the Augur of Dunlain, so return to the Midden Dark area and talk to the Augur again.
  • 3 of 7: Accept its test, then go stand in the shimmery light that appears on the west side of the chamber. (Move around in it if necessary to get the test to begin.)
  • 4 of 7: You'll be stripped of all your inventory items (except undroppable quest items), and will have only your spells left. Ghosts will appear in the chamber and attack you, forcing you to use your Restoration spells to stay alive. (Note that attacking the ghosts with combat spells isn't useful.)
  • 5 of 7: If you have a really high magic resistance, you won't be in any real danger, and may not have to heal yourself much or at all.
  • 6 of 7: TIP: If you crouch down against the west wall before the ghosts start appearing, they may not see you, in which case you can just wait without having to do anything.
  • 7 of 7: When it's over, the Augur will say "you are worthy," and you'll get the Bane of the Undead spell. That ends the quest, but don't neglect to check Colette Marence's store inventory for a Guardian Circle spell tome.
