Speak with Golldir.
1 of 4: Wait until Golldir gives you some gold and a chest key, at which time the quest will be over.
2 of 4: Loot Vals Veran's body to get another key, then go up the steps to his upper platform to find the door that it opens.
3 of 4: The key Golldir gave you will let you loot the chest past the door without picking its lock. Do so, then unbar the next door so you can use it as a shortcut back to the exit.
4 of 4: Travel somewhere else and then return to find Golldir back where you first found him. (If he's not there, try again later.) You can now talk to him and get him to become a follower.
