The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Hints

Dragon in Blackreach.

  • 1 of 11: After you gain entrance to Blackreach on the "Discerning the Transmundane" Daedric quest, you can cause a special dragon named Vulthuryol to appear in it if you've already finished the fourth Main Quest.
  • 2 of 11: Go over to the west side of Blackreach and look for a very large structure that has a huge golden-yellow orb hanging over it.
  • 3 of 11: Go around to the south side of the structure to find some steps leading up to its entrance, then kill off all the falmer and human servants that are running around inside.
  • 4 of 11: You could try going over to a spot directly underneath the huge golden orb, looking up at it, and using a shout. That may work if you have all three words to a directed shout, such as Unrelenting Force. If so, a gong will sound, and Vulthuryol will be summoned. Otherwise, read on for a way to get closer to the orb so that you'll only have to use a one-word shout on it.
  • 5 of 11: Look near the NW corner of the structure to find a door to the Hall of Rumination. Enter it and kill off the falmer and servants, then look for a way to open the gated stairs.
  • 6 of 11: Go up the stairs past the gate, then go through another gate to find a falmer and an elevator.
  • 7 of 11: Use the elevator's lever to go up, then go through a door and kill another falmer and his servants.
  • 8 of 11: From there, you can turn right and go along a narrow, winding ledge to reach a hard-to-find crimson nirnroot, or you can go down a curving stone walkway to reach a large circular platform.
  • 9 of 11: To summon the dragon Vulthuryol, go partway down the curving stone walkway, then face the huge golden orb and fire off any directed shout (such as Unrelenting Force).
  • 10 of 11: If you did it right, you'll hear a gong-like sound, and will soon see (and hear) Vulthuryol flying around down lower. He won't see you, and will probably land in a spot on the ground a ways to the south.
  • 11 of 11: Unless you have some really accurate ranged attacks (like Fireball), you'll probably have to take the elevator back down and go over to where you can fight the dragon. (Note that it'll have the same amount of health as an ancient dragon, even if your character is low-level.)
