System Shock 2 Hints

Psi Powers

  • 1 of 6: There are too many psi powers and too many different kinds of characters that you can build for me to describe every one.  But I will give you some basic recommendations in the hints that follow.
  • 2 of 6: First of all, look for psi powers that enhance your existing skills.  Some of these are already described in the hints about other skills -- for example, consider Neuro-Reflex Dampening if you're using lots of standard weapons to reduce their kickback.  Also consider some of the stat-enhancing powers that enhance your existing stills -- for example, use Psychogenic Strength to help you get more damage out of your melee weapons.
  • 3 of 6: There are a few psi powers that you may "need" to solve puzzles.  The Neural Decontamination power (tier 2) will help you survive radiation damage that you will encounter in a few locations.  Psi Pull (tier 1), while not strictly necessary for solving any puzzles, will let you get nanites and other items not readily reachable by other means.
  • 4 of 6: Also look for powers that fill in the gaps in your character's abilities.  If you're having a hard time in combat, something like Psycho-Reflective Screen or Pyschoreflective Aura can help you get through the game a little more easily.
  • 5 of 6: If you're playing primarily with psi powers, you may want psi-based attacks and/or calming powers like Psionic Hypnogenesis (tier 3), Electron Suppression (tier 4), or even Imposed Neural Restructuring (tier 5). However, psi points can be relatively rare, so you'll need to pick your attacks carefully.  Expect a challenge if you want to avoid using weapons throughout the entire game.
  • 6 of 6: Finally, all players may want to consider Photonic Redirection (tier 4) -- also known as Invisibility.  While it doesn't last all that long without a high PSI, it still may be good enough to let you get past some tough spots.
