System Shock 2 Hints
How can I get up the ladder in the first room?
1 of 6: You'll need to find some way of moving that vent before you can climb the ladder.
2 of 6: Or maybe just destroying it.
3 of 6: There's a wrench on a dead body in a smaller room to the east.
4 of 6: Pick it up and then equip it by dragging it to the weapons slot of your MFD or by pressing the hot key (usually "1").
5 of 6: Then, swing at the vent with the wrench by clicking the mouse button. The vent will be destroyed and you can then climb the ladder.
6 of 6: If you're OSA, you can also use your Cryokinesis psi power on the vent. Marines can use either a grenade launcher (if you chose the Heavy Weapons training) or a laser pistol (if you chose the Energy Weapons skill). I wouldn't recommend doing either, though, since you'll want to save your ammunition or psi points for the creatures wandering the Von Braun.
