System Shock 2 Hints
Shotgun
The shotgun seems to be a bit stronger than the pistol, but there are no armor-piercing shells for it. (This may not matter to you, depending on what other weapons you have.) Also, since it uses a different kind of ammunition from the pistol and assault rifle, you may want to keep a shotgun around to take advantage of whatever ammunition is available. You can also pick up shotguns from dead Shotgun Hybrids and unload them for extra ammunition.
