Make sure that the tumblers are reset to their original position. (If you have performed the previous example, and nothing more, simply retract the in-use pick, and the tumblers will reset.) To fully reset the mechanism at any time, simply leave the puzzle, and re-enter it again.
Knowing that the two initial tumblers ("A" and "J") interact with each other, it is easy to provide an example of jamming a tumbler.
Using either pick, begin by depressing tumbler "A". Now, leave this first pick holding tumbler "A", and select the other pick. (Right-click the mouse to switch picks.) Using this second pick, depress (left-click) tumbler "J". If you watch tumbler "A" while doing this, you will note that it changes to a slightly darker color. In addition, there is a very distinct and audible "clicking" sound that indicates that a tumbler has been jammed.
To test this out, remove the pick from tumbler "A". (Select that pick, then left-click on the shaft to retract it.) Tumbler "A" remains open! Compare this to tumbler "J". Select the bottom pick and retract it. Tumbler "J" is restored to its locking position -- because it wasn't jammed.
So one method of jamming a tumbler is to hold down the tumbler to be jammed, and then depress the tumbler that would normally cause this target tumbler to react. When it cannot, it will jam open.
