Still Life Hints

But I only have five rings.

  • 1 of 12: Up to the point of the sewer maze, Gus cannot proceed beyond certain points unless, and until, he has gathered the various spiked rings from the victims' bodies, or wherever else they may have ended up.
  • 2 of 12: However, no matter what he does, Gus will arrive at the sewer maze with only five rings.
  • 3 of 12: Yet the ring puzzle at the end of the maze requires six rings.
  • 4 of 12: There is no place to go back to find another ring.
  • 5 of 12: And there is no other exit from the sewer maze.
  • 6 of 12: The logical conclusion is that there must be another ring -- the sixth ring -- somewhere in the maze.
  • 7 of 12: If you have arrived at the ring puzzle with only five of the spiked rings, your task will be to take Gus back into the maze (either by walking back to the bottom of the screen, or re-loading a saved game that you might have created at the beginning of the sewer maze), and find the sixth ring.
  • 8 of 12: To find the sixth ring, you will need to explore far further than you did when you reached the exit door.
  • 9 of 12: It would seem that Mark Ackerman left one of his victims deep within the maze of sewers, rather than publicly exposed, as were the others.
  • 10 of 12: Walk Gus through the remainder of the maze -- without leaving via the exit, or going back through the entrance -- until you have found Ackerman's last (or, possibly, his first -- based on the condition of the body) victim.
  • 11 of 12: As much as Gus hates it, he will have to look closely at the body to find, and retrieve, the sixth ring.
  • 12 of 12: After you have located the body, and the ring, Gus will need to retrace his path through the maze, and out the exit door, to the ring puzzle.
