Still Life Hints
Now I'm stuck; there's no place to go.
of 16: Oh, but there is. True, the square to the right is covered by a laser that is swinging over four squares. And you cannot simply "run" through that square, because the square beyond it (and above it) are covered by another laser beam!
of 16: So this time, the timing of your movements becomes even more critical than before.
of 16: Begin by trying to determine how to reach the door from where you currently are.
of 16: Your mini-robot cannot crawl over grates, panels, wires, or other obstructions.
of 16: The only "clear" path (forgetting, for the moment, the laser beams) is up to the ceiling, and down the back wall!
of 16: Now, if that's our target path, which squares should we aim the mini-robot toward, to optimize our time vs. the laser beams?
of 16: You never want to head *into* the path of a laser beam -- i.e., moving toward it while it is moving toward you.
of 16: And if you follow the movement of the upper laser beam (the one covering two wall squares and two ceiling squares), you'll see that you must *follow* it around the squares it is traversing.
of 16: In other words, the optimal path is for the mini-robot to go forward one square, pivot left, move up the wall one square, continue forward one square onto the ceiling, pivot right, go forward one square, pivot left, and go forward one more square -- landing on another "safe" square with no laser beam activity.
of 16: To do this is going to require excruciating timing, observing *two* separate laser beams (and their interaction with each other), and some very dexterous manipulation of the arrow control buttons.
of 16: The first thing is the timing -- knowing when to go. And the safest time is immediately after the lower laser beam leaves the square next to the mini-robot. Make sure that you have pivoted the mini-robot to the right, so that it is facing this first square.
of 16: As soon as the laser beam leaves that square, move forward one click and pivot to the left (facing up the wall).
of 16: WAIT! Don't be in a hurry, or you will walk right into the second laser beam.
of 16: The next few moves will need to be done as quickly as possible. As soon as the second laser beam leaves the square above the mini-robot, move forward into that square, and immediately follow into the ceiling square.
of 16: Pivot to the right, and move forward one click.
of 16: Immediately pivot to the left, and move forward one more click, to land on the "safe" square.
