Still Life Hints

Richard's Gallery: How do I use the information in the computer database?

  • 1 of 8: First, make sure that Victoria has closely examined each of the paintings in the gallery...
  • 2 of 8: ... including any "hot spots" on any of the paintings.
  • 3 of 8: Then use Richard's computer as a search engine, to find some common point between several of the themes in the paintings.
  • 4 of 8: To use the search engine, select one or more items from the list on the right side of the computer screen.  (This is why Victoria must first examine the paintings individually -- otherwise nothing will show up here.)
  • 5 of 8: After selecting up to three different entries, click on the magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner of Richard's computer screen.
  • 6 of 8: The computer will search the entire database, trying to find one single item of information that matches, or includes, all of the selected themes.
  • 7 of 8: Try to work through the topics in such a way that the combination of words selected results in one, and only one, match.
  • 8 of 8: While it is possible to use some intuition at this point, there is really no direct clue as to which items will produce the desired result.  Instead, it is more trial-and-error, watching the results in an attempt to determine which key words reduce the number of matches significantly.
