Tales of Monkey Island Hints

How do I defeat McGillicutty?

  • 1 of 10: You've got a cannon, don't you? Fire it!
  • 2 of 10: Well, that wasn't too helpful (though it is pretty funny). The two cannons are too evenly matched and cancel each other out. Your other option, insult fighting, just gets you a broken mast. Now what?
  • 3 of 10: You can just limp back to Spinner Cay and get it fixed, but the result will be the same every time. You need a different kind of mast.
  • 4 of 10: Not a stronger one, a more flexible one. Remember that unusual tree on Brillig Island?
  • 5 of 10: With a broken mast, sail to Brillig Island to find that the odd tree is a rubber tree. That might do the trick, if you could fell that tree.
  • 6 of 10: You need some help here. Talk to the two idiot pirates on Brillig Island and see what opportunities present themselves.
  • 7 of 10: They're looking for the chest they buried that isn't here anymore because you dug it up. Maybe they could help you without knowing they were helping.
  • 8 of 10: Tell them they buried the chest under the tree, and they'll dig it up about halfway. Give the tree a push to knock it over.
  • 9 of 10: Now go back to Spinner Cay and ask Anemone to fix your mast using this new tree. (If you've already had him fix your mast in the usual way, go back to McGillicutty and get him to break it again, then go straight to Anemone.)
  • 10 of 10: Now go back to McGillicutty's ship and insult him again. Boom!
