Tales of Monkey Island Hints

How do I get away from De Singe?

  • 1 of 15: Well, you came here to use La Esponja on the Vacaylian Wind Device, and you don't need your feet for that. So just toss that old sponge into the huge wind horn.
  • 2 of 15: Aw, bugger! It bounces off the stupid Pyrite Parrot and is caught by -- what is that thing on De Singe's turban?
  • 3 of 15: It's Guybrush's severed hand, and it looks like De Singe has found a way to suck his "jus de vie" from it. That's what's keeping him alive even when Elaine sticks a sword into him.
  • 4 of 15: We need to get that hand away from him. How? De Singe is really attached to that turban.
  • 5 of 15: Just like Stan was attached to his hideous jacket. Maybe we can use the same method to get rid of the turban.
  • 6 of 15: Did you notice the moths hovering around the Device's blue eye lights? We need to turn off those lights and somehow make De Singe's head glow to attract them.
  • 7 of 15: Turning off the eye lights temporarily is fairly easy, with Elaine's help.
  • 8 of 15: Talk to De Singe and tell him Elaine is too powerful for him, and she'll lunge at him, jamming her sword in the machine's gears and dimming the lights temporarily. Okay, now we just need to light up De Singe's head.
  • 9 of 15: We don't have any lights. What we do have is fireflies -- which, as you recall, are attracted to sugar water.
  • 10 of 15: Throw the bag of sugar into the tub of water next to you, and the fireflies come over. Now how to get De Singe to stick his head in it?
  • 11 of 15: If his head was on fire, that would do it. You don't have matches, but you do have something hot in inventory.
  • 12 of 15: Use the pepper on De Singe, and he'll duck his head into the sugar water and get a halo of fireflies.
  • 13 of 15: Now talk to him again and tell him Elaine will beat him. This will dim the eye lights, and the moths will do the rest.
  • 14 of 15: Once De Singe is gone, toss La Esponja in the Device again --
  • 15 of 15: -- and get ready for a big shock.
