Who is Tex Murphy?
Tex Murphy, who appeared in a series of groundbreaking computer games from 1989 to 1998, is ... well, I'd describe him as a cross between Sam Spade and Maxwell Smart. He's a private eye who's not always brilliant, though he does have his moments, but he's always decent, compassionate, and mostly honest. He lives in New San Francisco in the 2040s in the days after World War III, when the country has switched to a nocturnal business day to take advantage of the night's decreased radiation problem. His seedy apartment is on Chandler Avenue in the less fashionable section of town, where most of his neighbors are either mutants or cranks of one sort or another -- and he fits right in. He's saved the world five -- no, six times now, but somehow he always manages to do so in a way that no one knows what he did except for him. Alas!
