Team Fortress Classic Hints
How do enemies know I'm feigning death?
of 8: Several things can tip them off.
of 8: First, you cannot look around when feigning death. If you do, your corpse will rotate to accomodate the view. Hence, if an enemy sees a corpse rotating, then he knows that it is a feigning spy that is looking around.
of 8: Second, they might know that you are feigning death because you were the only one in the room and you suddenly died. Often, if they hear a death cry but there is no fighting going on, they will often inspect the area for spies.
of 8: Third, your "corpse" may hinder their movement. Real TFC corpses are physically (not visually) transparent allowing you to pass over/through them without any problem. If an enemy accidentally runs into you, he may figure out that you are a spy merely because he was able to "run into" you. Try to stay out of a direct path. Feign in a corner or against a wall.
of 8: Fourth, enemies will look for packs on dead players. If they see someone go down and not drop a pack, they will know that the player did not actually die and that he is playing "possum."
of 8: Fifth, if a player fires into a corpse and it bleeds, then it is an enemy spy feigning death. Once an enemy fires at you, get up and move away quickly. (If you fire into a corpse and it doesn't bleed but it was still a spy, then it was a teammate -- assuming Team-Kill is off.)
of 8: Finally, the way you look may give you away. Obviously, if you are disguised as a spy and you are lying there, enemies are going to be more suspicious of your corpse. If you change color or skins while feigning death, this will be an immediate tip off to an enemy. (A specific bug may cause a corpse to change skin because the player whose corpse it is has changed his player class.)
of 8: Try to remain inconspicuous. Feign in normal places, not against enemy doors or in the flag room. Dress like an actual enemy player. Be silent and do not move when laying there. Toss out your pack as well.
