Team Fortress Classic Hints
My team is not playing as a team!
of 9: Obviously, you cannot control your teammates. And, they may not be as skilled as you are. Hence, issues may arise where your team is not acting efficiently.
of 9: First and foremost, talk to your teammates. The general chat button is default "Y" and the team-talk chat is default "U".
of 9: Try to gently organize your team into a better working machine rather than telling them off.
of 9: Try to establish who will be on offense, who will play defense, who will be the main medic, who will be the saboteur spy, who will be the flagrunner and so on. Many times it is organization that determines who wins or loses the game.
of 9: Second, actually show your teammates how to play as a team, either blatantly or more subtly. For example, if you are an engineer, set up a sentry gun in key strategic locations for other newbie engineers to see. Or, just demonstrate how to use the wrench to upgrade a sentry gun.
of 9: You do not necessarily have to tell them what you are doing. Most people will figure it out just by watching you. Having a team of educated players is imperative to having a "team" at all.
of 9: Third, follow orders other teammates might give. Just because you may be giving orders does not mean you get out of taking orders yourself. Other players may know something you don't and they may not have time to explain it to you. If someone asks you to stay back on defense, which most people do not want to do usually, the order stands and should be followed.
of 9: You can obviously argue an order down or find a replacement, but disregarding your orders is ultimately detrimental to your team.
of 9: When all else fails, the team just probably cannot be helped. People are usually just hunting for frags and could care less about team glory. When this happens, you can either join the other team or join another game.
