Team Fortress Classic Hints
How can I avoid sniper fire?
1 of 5: The best way to avoid any kind of sniper fire is to force the sniper to react to several dimensions.
2 of 5: Start jumping and strafing from side to side as you move.
3 of 5: If you are just passing through a building where a sniper could be nested, don't jump, as you might tip him off to your whereabouts just by the sound alone. Just strafe a bit to confuse possible shots. However, if you are being chased by automatic-weapon wielding snipers, then you should obviously jump to avoid the bullets.
4 of 5: Extra erratic movement will force the sniper to adjust for your jumping and for your strafing while you are moving onward at the same time. Depending on where he is, that would force him to compensate for at least the Y-axis (for the jumping). If he has any kind of angle on you, then he will have to consider the Z-axis as well.
5 of 5: Basically, by running around, strafing and jumping, your path is no longer a straight line. A sniper can't simply trace a straight line and anticipate where you are going to be in a second.
