Team Fortress Classic Hints

Where should I nest?

  • 1 of 10: Obviously, I cannot describe all of the best places to nest.  But, I can describe what to look for in a good sniper's nest.
  • 2 of 10: First off, you want to find someplace where you have a line on some major travel routes or battlegrounds.  You want to have a lot of traffic to take aim at.  In narrower levels like Hunted, it is best to cover some of the narrow hallways or passages where players must travel through to meet their objective.
  • 3 of 10: Second, you will want something out of the way.  Usually rooftops or upper-level areas will allow for the best positions.  Any place where you will not be on the same plane as your opponents or at least not entirely exposed work well.
  • 4 of 10: Third, you want decent cover.  Hide behind boxes, have a slanted line of sight when sniping out of windows, and hide in shadowed areas.  A simple corner might even act as cover since you have two sides protected.
  • 5 of 10: There are places scattered throughout the levels that the developers intended to be sniper nests.  Find them.  They are usually shadowed, covered areas with a decent line of sight on a major travel route.
  • 6 of 10: Some sniping positions do not appear to be so.  They may seem out in the open or too simple to act as a decent sniper nest.  They are usually overlooked by enemies, though, since most players will clear the established sniper nests first.
  • 7 of 10: Many are positions of opportunity, as they only work for snipers in certain situations.  Learning when to use a particular position is an acquired skill that cannot be adequately represented in a strategy guide like this.  You'll just have to figure it out on your own.
  • 8 of 10: Watch where other snipers hide to find the best sniping positions.
  • 9 of 10: Be creative in searching out your own nests.  Pay attention to where enemies look and more importantly, where they don't.
  • 10 of 10: Just don't stand out in the open to snipe.
