The Longest Journey Hints
What should I do the next day?
of 9: You'll have to walk around, talk to people, and read books a lot. The first real puzzles don't start until you've talked to the old sailor about cashing in a favor. Until you have, keep talking to people and checking back at the library as you find out more information -- skipping even one step may keep you from getting there.
of 9: If you want to know exactly where to go and what to do, read ahead. This isn't the only order you have to do things, but if you get stuck, try the first thing on the list that you haven't done and then work from there. Also make sure to go through all of the conversation options whenever you talk to someone.
of 9: The next morning, you should visit Abnaxus at the City Green and talk to him about the god who fell from the sea (among other topics).
of 9: Then follow up on that information by talking to the old sailor (not Captain Nebevay). He will tell you about the mermen.
of 9: You should also go back to talk to Vestrum Tobias.
of 9: You can then talk to Brian Westhouse to learn about the flying storytellers.
of 9: Go to the Enclave to research all of the topics you can, including the mermen and the storytellers. (And make sure to learn/read about the storytellers -- this is a important step and one that people seem to miss frequently.)
of 9: Ask Captain Nebevay if he can take you to Alais. He'll refuse, but at least you'll know that he's headed that direction.
of 9: Talk to the old sailor again, and he'll offer to call in a favor from Nebevay if you can retrieve his bird, Bird.
