The Moment of Silence Hints
How can I get the two elevators to work?
of 21: Notice that they both have control units attached to them.
of 21: Click on a control unit for a close-up.
of 21: Try hitting the round "touch switch" and then using the triangular arrow buttons.
of 21: Apparently you have to enter a certain two-digit code correctly in order to get the elevators to work. Not very trusting, these conspiracy types.
of 21: So start looking around for the code.
of 21: Unfortunately, no lazy employee wrote it down anywhere at the station.
of 21: But remember that you were able to bring Graham's diary along with you, despite the fact that it's about the worst thing Peter could possibly be caught with.
of 21: That means the answer to some puzzle here must be in the diary -- maybe it's the control unit puzzle.
of 21: Look at the Sept. 12 entry. It has lots of good facts written down.
of 21: Which of them might be a code referring to the control units?
of 21: One entry says "Code: TR M BR B - BL B BR."
of 21: How might those letters correspond to the digital symbols that you can get on the control units?
of 21: Notice that the code list has a hyphen between two sets of letters. That implies that each of the two sets describes one symbol.
of 21: So what symbol would match up with the description "TR M BR B?"
of 21: What if T meant top, B meant bottom, and so on?
of 21: If so, the segments of each digit would be labeled as shown in the following picture.
of 21: That would mean that the symbol you want on the left side of the control panel would have its top right segment lit, its middle segment lit, its bottom right segment list, and its bottom segment lit. The symbol on the right would have its three bottom symbols on.
of 21: Here's a picture of the two symbols as they should be set.
of 21: Another way to look at it is in terms of how many times you have to click on which arrows to get the answer.
of 21: From the starting "88" configuration, click the left side's up arrow 5 times and the right side's down arrow 10 times.
of 21: Once you get the code set correctly, hit the big yellow switch at the top of the panel to get the elevator to work (for one trip only -- you have to enter the code in every time you want to use an elevator).
