The Moment of Silence Hints

What do I need to do with the parabolic dishes to foil the AI?

  • 1 of 21: If you haven't already explored the place and figured out how the dish rotations and map displays work, see the following link on how to do so. You'll need all of that information to be able to figure out a solution to this large and confusing puzzle.
  • 2 of 21: As Peter notes when you leave the AI's monitoring room after talking to it, you need to figure out a way to silence all the information input that the AI is constantly getting through its spying devices.
  • 3 of 21: All the spying devices in a large region send their info to a relay, which then sends it to the AI's local parabolic dishes. There are five dishes, so there must be five relay stations scattered around the world.
  • 4 of 21: However, there's no way to destroy any more relay stations from here. How can you use the fact that the Bermuda station has already been destroyed?
  • 5 of 21: What if you rotate the parabolic dishes that are aimed at other relay stations so that they are instead aimed at the destroyed Bermuda station? That way they'll be receiving nothing but static.
  • 6 of 21: When you were at the Bermuda station, examining the monitors in its main computer room showed that it was receiving information from North America.
  • 7 of 21: Using your sketch of the parabolic dish area, you'll see that the map showing North America is the one directly across from parabolic dish #2, so dish 2 needs no adjustment. It's already aimed directly at the destroyed relay station, and is bringing in nothing but static.
  • 8 of 21: So now you need to adjust the other dishes so that they point directly at the Bermuda relay (so their corresponding map displays will show only North America, in other words).
  • 9 of 21: But you can't do that with all four of the other dishes due to the rule that all five continents have to be covered by at least one dish at all times.
  • 10 of 21: Fortunately, as noted in the Sept. 12 entry of Graham's diary, shutting down three of the five stations is enough. (Or in your case, shutting down one station and aiming two other parabolic dishes to only receive from that station is enough.)
  • 11 of 21: So choose two dishes other than #2 and rotate them so that they cover only North America, which means that they'll be bringing in pure static.
  • 12 of 21: If you'll remember the dish movement rules that you discovered earlier, there are only two other dishes that can be rotated to cover North America at all: dishes 1 and 3.
  • 13 of 21: So rotate dish 1 all the way to the left (setting 006) and dish 3 all the way to the right (setting 210). They'll both be covering North America after you do that.
  • 14 of 21: However, if you check their map displays, you'll see that neither one is covering *just* North America. Dish 1 is also getting stuff from the South America relay, and dish 3 is also tuned in to the Africa relay. That's not good, because it means these two dishes are still active and useful -- you need them to not be.
  • 15 of 21: The problem here is that rotating those two dishes to cover only North America would violate the "every continent covered at once" rule since South America and Africa (dishes 1 and 3's original settings) wouldn't be covered.
  • 16 of 21: So you need dishes 4 and 5 to do double duty and help cover those continents.
  • 17 of 21: Fortunately, checking your sketch map and remembering the rotation rules, you'll realize that dish 5 can be made to cover both Australia and South America, and dish 4 can be made to cover both Europe/Asia and Africa. If that were done, dishes 1 and 3 would be freed up from having to cover their original continents.
  • 18 of 21: So rotate dish 4 all the way to the right (setting 282) and dish 5 all the way to the left (setting 294).
  • 19 of 21: Now go back to dishes 1 and 3 and adjust them one more notch in the direction you were taking them before.
  • 20 of 21: Specifically, set dish 1 to setting 000 and dish 3 to setting 216.
  • 21 of 21: The instant you make the final adjustment, you'll get a cut-scene in which Peter runs to the AI's monitoring room and sees it shut down.
