How do I get to the hourglass that's behind a locked gate?
1 of 14: Note that you can only solve this puzzle once you've found a way to get your guide past the gate blocking his path.
2 of 14: Once you've "freed" your guide, some of the tiles in the room with the chain should now be lit.
3 of 14: Count the number of lit tiles.
4 of 14: And look at the wall above the gate to the hourglass.
5 of 14: There are five lit tiles and five torches on that wall.
6 of 14: If you walk around this room, you may eventually notice some relationship between the two.
7 of 14: You need to step on (or jump to) those lit tiles in a particular order. For each tile you get right, one more torch will light. If you step on a wrong tile, all of the torches will go out.
8 of 14: To open the gate, you need to jump on all 5 lit tiles without stepping on any of the other tiles in the room.
9 of 14: Also, as you move to a new lit tile, the last one that you were standing on will burn away. Look to some chains to help you reset the puzzle if you've taken the wrong path.
10 of 14: Head out of the room with the tiles and down the slope. There will be a chain in the room at the bottom of the slope. Pull it and then return to the tile room -- everything should be as it first was.
11 of 14: You may be able to figure out the best way to get from one side of room to the other using only those 5 lit tiles by looking at how the tiles are placed. If you still need to know exactly what to do, read ahead for the exact answer.
12 of 14: Start by stepping onto the tile at the entrance to the room (after resetting the puzzle as necessary). Then, while facing the wall with the hourglass, jump forward and to the right one tile. You may need to stand in the corner of the first tile that's farthest from the second tile to insure that you land on the correct tile.
13 of 14: Then jump to the lit tile that's two squares forward (again, as relative to the hourglass).
14 of 14: Jump to your left to reach the fourth of the lit tiles, and from there, jump to the only lit tile you haven't visited. The gate should open, and you should be able to claim the hourglass.
