Destination: Treasure Island Hints
How can I figure out which coins to use?
of 17: Notice that there are two totals shown in the upper right corner of the screen.
of 17: They have to do with the number of coins on the tray, and the total value in shillings of the coins on the tray.
of 17: The inscription on the wooden door tells you how many coins you need to have on the tray.
of 17: It mentions the number of seas in the world.
of 17: Well, you need to put exactly seven coins on the tray.
of 17: As for what they need to add up to, that's given in the enigma message.
of 17: Near the bottom, it mentions 109 shillings.
of 17: So choose seven coins that total up to 109 shillings' worth and put them on the tray.
of 17: NOTE: You can reset the tray to being empty at any time by clicking on it without a coin attached to the cursor.
of 17: You can tell what each coin is worth by pointing at it on the coin display.
of 17: There are several ways to get coins to add up to 109 shillings, but not all of those ways use seven coins.
of 17: For instance, if you start out trying to use doubloons, you'll soon find that even if you use just one, there's no way you can get seven coins to add up to exactly 109 shillings.
of 17: Try starting at the low end and working your way up.
of 17: If you use both pistareens, both piasters, both guineas, and one Louis d'or, you'll end up with only 86 shillings.
of 17: So try using both Louis d'ors and working your way down from there.
of 17: You should soon find that you need both Louis d'ors, both guineas, one piaster, and both pistareens. (Or, put another way, you need every coin except both doubloons and one piaster.)
